Eharles Micallef leads two-horse race as finishing line looms closer

Former chess ace Charles Micallef (shown in picture) is the frontrunner in what is a two-horse race against five-time National Champion David Delicata, who, just past the midway stage of the Malta National Scrabble Championship 2016, trails Micallef by 7 points.

With both players dropping but few points against the rest of the field, Delicata will have to produce his best Scrabble against an in-form Micallef in the two direct encouters that are yet to be played. Far behind them, Mario Saliba and Moira Fenech are vying for third place with Sammy Mangion still in with a chance of making the battle for third a three-horse race.

Josephine Mayo enjoys a comfortable lead against all her rivals in Division II and should cruise to her second National title in as many years, leaving Anna Borg, Dominic Borg and Frans Farrugia battling for second and third place.
