Erom Dangoor to grandeur

In the first stage of MISO 11, which got underway yesterday with the Early Bird, the Englishman Elie Dangoor (seen right of photo) equaled the feat accomplished in the same tournament last year by the Scotsman Vincent Boyle to win unbeaten.

Going into his last game against then second-placed Theresa Brousson, Dangoor beat the home favourite to allow both Rafal Dominiczak, of Poland, and another Englishman, Bob Violett, to cllimb up to and finish in second and third place respectively, leaving Brousson just outside the prize-winning positions. Another two home players, Charles Micallef and Cecil Muscat fared well to place among the top seven in a field of 68 players

But the accolades did not elude the Malta team as Josephine Mayo and Mario Camilleri claimed the first and second ratings prize respectively. Helen Jones, of Australia, took the third.

MISO 11 continues on April 29 with the Main Event. 82 participants from eighteen countries and four continents will battle it out over three days inside the LUZZU Conference Hall on the shore of Qawra Bay.

(Update)

The solid performances by Micallef and Muscat have yielded substantial gains for the two players on both the National Player Ratings List, with the former moving back into the top four, and the International Player Ratings List. Brousson also consolidates her position as Malta's top player and regains her status as Malta's highest internationally rated player. Further down, new member Dave Parkin continues his climb up the ratings ladder.
